A Comparative Study Of The Two Chinese Versions Of O'Neill's Beyond The Horizon From The Perspective Of Performability

In the literary form,drama takes an important position in the history of world literature.At the same time,drama,a special form of literature,has both characteristics of literariness and performability,making drama translation more complicated than the translation of other forms of literature.As one of the most distinctive and significant parts in the field of translation studies,drama translation has long been explored by many translators.According to his own dozens of years of experience in stage performing and long-term practice in drama translation,Ying Ruocheng has formed a set of rich and distinctive theory and strategy in drama translation,with the aim of achieving the performance effect when translating drama.Based on Ying Ruocheng's idea of the four aspects of the content in performability: colloquialism,acceptability,actability,and individuality,the thesis takes the method of comparative study and uses a large number of examples to compare and analyze the two Chinese versions of the famous American drama Beyond the Horizon of Eugene O'Neill,and to reveal how the perspective of performability is better reflected.The argument that the translation of drama is the artistic embodiment of text or the textual process of art has always been at the core of the debate of the researchers.However,the primary purpose of drama creation is to serve for the stage performance,so it is necessary to take performability into account in the translation of drama.
