This paper takes the 2008 Exhibition of “Installation Ceramic Art under the Ruminant– Postcolonial Context” as research object.It thoroughly explores the evolution of ins tallation ceramic art(a non-mainstream form of expression)as well as the guidance of postcolonial context(interaction and collision between the Oriental and the Western,t he national and the cosmopolitan,the assimilative and the activated)on the collection of works in exhibition this time,the creation and theoretical expression of artists.Besi des,it analyzes the cultural evolution that ceramic art intervenes in the contemporary artistic creation based on its unparallel material characteristics and craft.This paper is intended to sort out the contemporary ceramic art,explore the development of the con temporary transformation and diversified presentation of Chinese ceramic art,and exe rt guidance and influences on artists with creation intention and the author.The Exhibi tion of “Installation Ceramic Art under the Ruminant – Postcolonial Context” is the fi rst art exhibition oriented at installation ceramic art in China,and one model of divers ified and well-sorted contemporary ceramic art exhibition.This paper systematically a nalyzes the purpose and background of “postcolonial context” proposed by the curator as well as the reflection on the exhibition theme,and selects artists in China and Sout h Korea which are similar but various in the postcolonial issue as reference.Participat ing artists reveal the influence of individual identity on creation by the echo of their w orks with identity and subject,the struggle between the “national” and the “cosmopoli tan” in their works and the disputes arising therefrom,and reflect the remaining conse quence of colonialist culture dominion.In the meantime,it also explores the influence of this exhibition on the artistic creation of the author,demonstrates his transition in t erms of expression and concept,and expounds the source of notion formation and the process of personal thinking by using works in different periods.
