A Grounding Theory Approach To The JianYu Construction In Mandarin

With the guiding ideology of the Grounding Theory,this dissertation conducts a tentative research into the JianYu Constrution of Chinese Language,with the aim to find out the Grounding Elements of Chinese,to discuss various ways of grunding,and to establish a grounding system for Chinese Language.Besides,by means of the Grounding Theory,providing a new prespective of looking into distinguish the finite clause and infinite clause.First,we have established three standards to designate the grounding elements:First,the grounding elements must have the function of sentence-completion;Second,the grounding element must be capable to establish the connection between the time of speech and the time of the event;Third,the entry element cannot participate in the construction of sentence propositional meaning.In our conclusion,the representative grounding elements are le2(?2),hui(?),yao(?),bixu(??),yinggai(??);the atypical elements are le1(? 1),guo2(?2).ke'neng(??),yiding(??).neng(?),keyi(??);de(?),ne(?)are also can be regard as the grounding elements.Second,we divide the JianYu verbs into three classes,and take le(?)and guo(?)as a representative to analyze the grounding performance of the three kinds of verbs.Verbs like mingling(??),can be allowed to follow the grounding elements,but maybe need a imperative context conditions;verbs like zhizhi(??),are not allowed to follow the grounding elements;the class of "xiecong(??)"verbs are also not allowed to follow the grounding elements.Third,this article argues that whether to include(or be able to make up)the grounding elements can not only be used to distinguish a clause is a grounded clause or ungrounded clause,but it can also be used to distinguish a finite clause and a non-finite clause.This article also review the distinction between the finite clause and the non-finite clause of Chinese Language.We hold that the key factor of the difficuty to divide the finite clause and the non-finite clause of Chinese Language is the entanglement between "the JianYu Constructure" and "the WeiBin Constructure" or"the LianWei Constructure".
