This article explores the theme of death in Martin Amis' Novels and hopes to increase the understanding of Ames, work and his creation. At present, some domestic scholars have achieved certain achievements in studying the theme of death in Amis'works. However, these studies scarcely touch on the types of death, the art forms of describing death, and the connotations of death in Amis'works.Concerning these deficiencies, this thesis discusses the theme of death in Amis' novels from three aspects.First of all,due to the failure to clarify the types of death in Amis' works, the existing studies are prone to have misunderstandings, and are impossible to clearly and accurately analyze the different reasons and connotations of death in the writer's works. This thesis examines the theme of death in Amis" novels from the aspects of death and desire, death and loneliness, and death and society, thus laying the foundation for the following analysis.Secondly, the current studies neglect the writing skills which Amis emphasizes in creating a novel, thus lacking a full understanding of the theme of death in Amis'works. This thesis discusses Amis' death theme from the perspectives of ironic rhetoric,non-time narration, and split subject. In addition to analyzing the characteristics of his artistic writing, this thesis emphasizes the moral connotations implied in the art forms. Finally, this thesis analyzes the implication of death written by Amis.In his works, the theme of death carries the strong critical consciousness of the writer-the criticism of society and Instrumental Reason, reflecting the sense of responsibility and mission of an excellent writer. From a deep perspective, that stems from Amis' concern for individual's living conditions. This thesis focuses on discussing human's living circumstances in Amis' writings from the aspects of illusion, absurdity, and despair, and reveals the writer's faith in and hope for the future and human beings.
