This report concentrates on translation project of Title 1 of Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act of 2015.This Act was enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled in 2015,stipulating the relief provided for the human trafficking victims and the operations of combating human trafficking.The translation project is the Title 1 of Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act of 2015 which stipulates various of relief provided for the human trafficking victims and what should government do to keep the relief in good performance.This report describes the project in general and explains the process of translation as well as states the significance of the report.Furthermore,on the basis of the definition of legal terms explained in the report,the features of the legal terms are analyzed,including features of profession,precision and conservation.The classification of legal terms can be divided into legal terms consisting of ordinary words and professional words.With the features and classifications,the principles of translation of legal terms are discussed in detail.It is concluded that the principles of accuracy and consistency should be followed in translating legal terms.In the case study,the author at first displays the problems encountered in the translation process,especially the problem of legal terms incongruousness.Second,confronted with these problems,the author uses the equivalence theory to guide the translation of legal terms.The author clarifies that the equivalence theory includes Eugene Nida's functional equivalence theory and Susan Sarcevic's equivalence classification,namely,near equivalence,partial equivalence and non-equivalence.Third,a discussion about how to choose translation methods in the translation of legal terms under the guidance of the equivalence theory has been conducted.The method of functional equivalence is adopted when the source language and target language are near equivalent and partial equivalent.Methods of paraphrase,neutral term and neologism are adopted in the non-equivalence to ensure the precision and profession of the translation of the legal terms.
