This is a translation report based on the translation practice of Chapter 3 of The International Human Rights Movement: A History.Owing to the differences of political ideology and cultural values between China and the West, western people tend to discuss Chinese issues from their own standpoints, which surely result in abundant use of politically sensitive discourse in the books or other types of writings by western professors and scholars. This translation report aims to investigate the translation problem of politically sensitive discourse. After exploring the definition of politically sensitive discourse and its scope in China's political context, the author suggests that domestication is the appropriate strategy for the translation of politically sensitive discourse.Under the guidance of domestication, the author puts more emphasis on the application of translation techniques. In addition to such commonly-used techniques as amplification and omission, the author also carries out an initial attempt to apply the techniques of neutralization and dilution in the translation of politically sensitive discourse so as to enhance the acceptability of the translated version.
