Egon Schiele's paintings have a strong individualistic style in modernistic paintings that gradually became active after the early twentieth century, and this is not only reflected in the innovation and change of the expression, the novelty and diversity of the subject, but also in excavation of created theme characters' subconscious souls and his deep exploration of the social status.Egon Schiele's paintings represent the great changes made by Western painters, who were influenced by the rapidly developing industrial revolution,in all aspects of traditional painting, and his unique artistic achievements have had a tremendous influence on later generations. In Vienna, where Schiele lived, people were being hit by the decline of the Empire and social development. The declining empire made people feel an unprecedented crisis and the entire city was full of helplessness and jealousy. However, the rapid development of the society produced by the industrial revolution made people seem to see the hope of life, and the progress of science and technology also made people get more and more three-dimensional observation methods. The complex and contradictory society has given Schiele's paintings a deep imprint of the era,in addition to the influence of his unique childhood experience on his artistic style,so the characters in his paintings have distinctive characteristics of the times and he expresses very deep on both self-portraits that express self-awareness and the depiction for desire and life and death.Because of his exaggerated figures and bold expression techniques,Schiele's paintings were criticized in the era of his life and it was difficult for people to understand Schiele's intentions of creation,so he was evaluated as an erotic and perverted painter. However, with the development of the times,we can easily experience him today by putting Schiele's works into the society in which he lived, and further understand the deep connotation of his works and the true nature of his paintings. In this paper, the character images of Schiele's works are studied, and we hope to understand the expressions and causes of his unique artistic language through deep research, analyze his formal and linguistic features systematically, and obtain the unique artistic charm of the characters that Schiele gives to his works by unique perspective and contemplation. This artistic approach and artistic contemplation are most worth learning for us.
