One group is the basic consonants in ancient Tibetan consonant cluster initials(the words)with rear consonant, this kind of initials may also take lead consonant, constitute a more complex triad consonant cluster initials or consonant cluster mixture.Rear consonants play an important role in the evolution of clusters.Clusters with basic and rear consonants have different evolution directions and may produce new phonemes. The author believes that the unbalance of the evolution of the consonant consonants is one of the important reasons for the speech differences of modern Tibetan language. This paper probes into the evolution of Tibetan rear initial consonants comparison analysis, using the modern linguistic theories and Tibetan traditional grammar, the combination of diachronic and synchronic methods, spoken and written Tibetan language materials,to explore its evolvement track or law.The thesis is divided into five chapters besides introduction and conclusion. The first chapter discusses the properties and categories of the consonant after the consonant with the traditional linguists. The second chapter mainly discusses the rear-y-class consonants in middle period of Tibetan language pronunciation, the modern change process in the Tibetan language, and in the modern Tibetan dialect falls off, special sound change, evolve into other lingual sounds phoneme differentiation phenomenon. The third chapter mainly discusses the rear-r-class consonants in middle period of Tibetan language pronunciation, the change process of modern Tibetan language, and in the modern Tibetan dialect falls off, keep or evolution of retroflex phoneme differentiation phenomenon. The fourth chapter mainly discusses the rear-1-type consonants in the middle period of the Tibetan, modern Tibetan in the change process of pronunciation,as well as the basic consonants loss in modern Tibetan dialects, and sla*zla*evolution for different phonological phenomena of sound change, etc. The fifth chapter mainly discusses the rear-w-type consonants in the middle period of the Tibetan, modern Tibetan in the change process of pronunciation,as well as the modern Tibetan dialects, retain or transfer function and so on.Through synchronic and diachronic analysis of both written and spoken Tibetan materials,we find that the sound changes of Tibetan rear initial consonants vary in different regions but the evolutionary directions are regular.
