Vocabulary is one of the basic key elements of language.The depth and width of vocabulary play important roles in learners' communicative ability and literacy ability.Vocabulary learning has continuously puzzled English learners of all ages in China due to the lack of a good language environment.Especially for senior high school students,the schoolwork burden and academic pressure make them stay in rote learning,which lacks a deep cultural understanding of words and contexts.However,the advent of“Internet plus”era brings a lot of convenience to teaching and learning field.The combination of technology and education has become an inevitable trend.Meanwhile,mobile-assisted language learning has gotten a sufficient development condition,and has become a new field in L2 teaching.However,at present,there are relatively few empirical researches on high school students' vocabulary mobile-learning in China.Based on the depth of processing theory and multimodal discourse theory,this paper combines the quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis together,focusing on the following two questions:firstly,what are senior high school students' attitudes towards mobile-assisted vocabulary learning mode?Secondly,what effects can MALL bring about to English vocabulary learning?In order to solve the above problems,the author chose 96 students from two parallel classes in the second grade of Xi'an GaoXin No.3 Middle School as the subjects,and took one of the popular vocabulary learning application "BaiCiZhan" as the research instrument.By comparing the pre-test,immediate post-test and delayed post-test,this paper studied the different vocabulary learning effects between the traditional paper-based learning mode and the mobile-assisted vocabulary learning mode.In order to deeply investigate students'opinions,attitudes and suggestions about"BaiCiZhan",participants in the experimental group were required to finish a questionnaire.The results of the questionnaire showed that most of the subjects affirmed the important role of mobile-assisted language learning and were satisfied with mobile-assisted vocabulary learning application "BaiCiZhan".At the same time,the shortcomings of the software were pointed out through the open question of the questionnaire and some suggestions for improvement were put forward.Through the comparative experimental analysis of the data,it was found that in the immediate post-test,the score of the experimental group was obviously higher than that of the control group(MCG= 15.46,MEG=17.19),and the result of independent sample T test also showed that there was a notable difference between the two groups(p=0.000<0.05).In the delayed post-test,the score of the experimental group was still higher than that of the control group(MCG=14.35,MEG =16.29),which indicated that the mobile-assisted vocabulary learning had more advantages in vocabulary retention.In the analysis of the paired sample T test of the experimental group,it was also found that the intra group gap in the experimental group was narrowed down.Therefore,compared with the traditional paper-based vocabulary teaching and learning method,mobile-assisted language learning is more effective.However,we cannot deny that there are some limitations in the study.For example,the research subjects are limited;the time of the comparative study is short;the application and learning material still have certain limitations.Therefore,the study does bring some implications to senior high school English vocabulary learning,but it still needs further experiment and discussion.
