Vocabulary is a main element of language and plays an irreplaceable role in language learning.However,it is common that many students memorize words by mechanical repetition and have little enthusiasm for English vocabulary learning.Besides,teachers usually do not teach vocabulary in a flexible and creative way because they have to face the increasing burden posed by test results,especially for senior high school teacher,which leads to the restrictions of class teaching.At the same time,the omnipresent coverage of network and extensive popularity of mobile devices make MALL(mobile-assisted language learning)increasingly convenient with little limitation in time and space.With the assistance of modern learning devices,learners can have access to rich learning resources presented in a fun way,which can arouse their learning interest,change traditional ways of vocabulary learning and improve learning effect.Therefore,this study attempts to analyze the current situation of vocabulary learning by vocabulary memory applications(VMA)based on MALL of senior high school students through conducting questionnaires and interviews.All participants(230 students and 6 English teachers)involved in this research came form X Senior High School in Xi'an,where the author served ELT internship.The result indicated that vocabulary learning could achieve a relatively desirable effect with the support of VMA.Firstly,VMA can stimulate students' interest in vocabulary learning and improve their self-learning ability.Secondly,VMA can provide a scientific method for students to learn,review and check their mastery of vocabulary.However,vocabulary learning efficiency and effect are not high.Therefore,it is necessary forteachers to combine class teaching with MALL to arouse students' interests,improve learning method and enhance learning effect in English vocabulary learning.
