Cross-cultural communication has become strategically important to countries in worldwide due to the growth of global business,science and technology.As China lead the world in economy,the communication between China and other countries has become more and more frequent.Although China plays a significant role in economy in global wide,many foreigners still remain a superficial understanding,or even misunderstanding on Chinese culture,which is out of step with the economic status of China.Chinese government has put forward the going-out policy to encourage the cultural communication between China and other countries.In this case,the role of Chinese-English interpreting.and interpreters have become very important.However,during the process of interpreting,interpreters has to overcome difficulties of linguistic differences,cultural barrier,short term memory,note-taking,and etc.Among these challenges,the differences in culture and language is the one of the toughest issue that leads to the failure of interpreting task since it requires the interpreter to be able to have a profound knowledge of different culture and language and flexible shift source language into target language.In order to figure out approaches to reducing cultural differences in communication between Chinese and foreigners who speak English,this thesis researches on interpreting strategies for differences between English and Chinese language and culture on the basis of the author's practice on consecutive interpreting in class activity in America with strategies of domestication and foreignization,from the perspective of the theories of ethnocentrism and cultural relativism.The author reviews the entire process of the interpreting task which includes:preparation before the task,the process of the task and conclusions after the task.This thesis also presents a case study on the documentary the Four Treasures of Chinese Study to have a more profound research and analysis on interpreting methods,solutions to the problems that found in the practice and case,which includes solutions to short-term memory,note-taking and linguistic and cultural differences.At last,the author displays the feedback from audiences on the interpreting task,and demonstrate the importance of interpreters' role in cross-cultural communication.The author also presents the source text and target text of the case in the appendix for reference.
