“The Classic of Filial Piety”of Li Kung-lin is an illustration based on the Confucian classic work,“Book of Filial Piety”,which is a typical painting work on the subject of regulation and verification. The subjects on Filial Piety are not as popular as subjects on landscape, flowers and birds in painting history,so it is often ignored by researchers. At present, there are few studies on “the Classic of Filial Piety”,and almost all of them are as illustration evidence of historical studies or literary works, ignoring the research on itself. Therefore, based on the work of “the Classic of Filial Piety”,this paper conducts relevant research on them, hoping to present the true appearance of regulation and verification paintings in Song dynasty with the help of image data. The popularity of " the Classic of Filial Piety”is inseparable from its enlightening function, and the thought of the revival of Confucianism in the northern Song dynasty has become the catalyst for the rapid development of such regulation and verification paintings.Li Kung-lin 's " the Classic of Filial Piety " is mainly aimed at educating the public, and it is a work with certain utilitarianism. Its main content shows a society with distinct hierarchical system.Such social structure is consistent with the moral framework advocated by Confucianism, which is one of the essential characteristics of the regulation and verification painting. However, when the painter completes the function of regulation and verification,he integrates his sensitivity of art and life into the picture and makes it an artistic work with his own characteristics. On the basis of collecting and integrating a large number of literature, this paper absorbs the research results of previous scholars, and further analyzes Li Kung-lin 's "the Classic of Filial Piety ".This paper is mainly divided into four parts for discussion. The first part, based on the historical background of the Song dynasty, restores the meaning of Li Kung-lin 's " the Classic of Filial Piety ",and elaborates its functional significance. The second part is the focus of the research in this paper, mainly including two aspects: on the one hand,it is picture-context relation,i.e.how the painter realize the conversion of text to image by finding specific subjects, images and stories through words. On the other hand,it analyzes the specific things in the picture of Li Kung-lin 's " the Classic of Filial Piety ",including the characters, landscapes and flowers and birds in the picture, also elaborates the artistic techniques and artistic styles of Li Kung-lin used and presented in the picture. The third part focuses on the unique significance of Li Kung-lin 's " the Classic of Filial Piety ",through thehorizontal comparison with the contemporary paintings on the subject of regulation and verification. The last part discusses the artistic value of Li Kung-lin 's painting and calligraphy in " the Classic of Filial Piety ",as well as the influence of his artistic ideas and techniques presented in " the Classic of Filial Piety " on the later generations. The thought of the revival of social Confucianism in the Song dynasty directly promoted the development of Li Kung-lin 's " the Classic of Filial Piety ",and made it spread widely. At the same time,Li Kung-lin made graphical interpretation on the text content of " the Classic of Filial Piety " in his own way, thus successfully realizing the conversion of image to text in " the Classic of Filial Piety ".In addition, while the whole painting work gives full play to the role of enlightenment,Li Kung-lin did not ignore the artistic value of his paintings, which made him break through the system of imperial-court decorative painting at that time, with the characteristics of literati painting.
