On Task-based English Short Story Teaching In Senior High School

In recent years,the content of English reading teaching in senior high school is monotonous;Teaching and learning situation about English novel is not optimistic.Task-based language teaching is widely advocated in China but the results of implementation are not so obvious.Students' enthusiasm and initiative for reading English novels are not at a high level.In view of these present situations,the author has tried to apply the TBLT into the reading teaching of English short story to explore the feasibility of English novel reading teaching in senior high school and increase the students' interest and reading ability.The author selected a class of students in a senior high school to carny out a simple questionnaire survey and teacher interview as well as classroom observation to understand the reading situation of English novels of the students and the situation of teachers' application of TBLT.Then,based on the full analysis of various elements of instructional design and related theories of TBLT,The author carried out an instructional design for a reading lesson:an English short story reading-take O· Henry's short story "The Gift of the Magi" as an example to explore the application and effects of the TBLT in the reading and teaching of English novel.Finally,the author analyzed the effects of the instructional design and significance of the teaching through classroom observation,students' interview,interview of the teacher and self-reflection.The results showed that students' reading experience and enthusiasm can influence the effects of the reading tasks.Besides,the TBLT can improve students'interest and reading ability in English novels,and it will help the students to gradually develop the reading habits and enrich English reading materials.
