In the process of the current senior high school English writing teaching,many teachers spend a large amount of time in training students’ writing skills but ignore cultivating students’ audience awareness.So,many students’ writings are very poor because they are lack of audience awareness when they are writing.The main purpose of the study is to understand the current status of cultivating students’ audience awareness in senior high school English writing teaching,and hope that this study can also make English teachers who work in senior high school pay more attention to relevant theories of audience awareness and actively cultivate students’ audience awareness in English writing teaching courses.The methods of the study include literature research,textual analysis,questionnaire and interview.The results of the thesis show that most students have a certain understanding of audience awareness from perceptual level.But when they are writing,they can not effectively use relevant strategies of audience awareness to monitor their own writing.What’s more,teachers do not teach students any relevant theoretical knowledge of audience awareness in usual writing courses,which makes students lack of audience awareness and there are many puzzling sentences in their writing texts.Therefore,teachers’ cultivating students’ audience awareness has not implemented.The conclusions of this study include the following two points: first,most of the students have audience awareness in pre-writing and post-writing stage,but they are lack of audience awareness in while-writing stage.The factors that cause students to be lack of audience awareness in while-writing stage include the “empty circle” in the form of language,self-centered,and the insufficient theme development.Second,teachers have realized the importance of audience awareness in the process of English writing teaching,and they actively adopt some strategies to improve students’ audience awareness in classes,such as teachers’ feedback and peer feedback.In the interview,half of the teachers say that they correct students’ compositions as both a language evaluator and an audience,the other half of teachers correct students’ compositions as an evaluator.The implications of the study about how to cultivate students’ audience awareness in the course of senior high English writingteaching are as follows.Teaching theory combined with students’ writing texts;imagining audience;using process propulsion method and expanding the range of audience’ feedback.
