As the extraterritorial extension of Chinese ancient poetry,Chinese poetry in Japan is the indispensible part of Chinese literature research.Taking "Wang Tao and Chinese Poem in the Meiji period of Japan" as research object, this article not only makes an overall view of Chinese classical poetry in a broader range, but also expands the dimension of "Wang Tao Research" with presenting a more abundant image of Wang Tao.The article consists of three parts, including introduction, main body and conclusion. The introduction elaborates on the topic background, significance and research status. The main body can be divided into four chapters:The first chapter explores the background of sailing to Japan from three aspects, such as realistic reason, psychological motivation and character causes.Firstly, the mutual demonstration of literature and history is used to reveal the realistic reason of Wang Tao's wandering, which is that due to the event of "submitting written statement to Taiping Heavenly Kingdom",Wang had to "escape" from China and start his exile lifetime.Secondly, the archetypal criticism is adopted to discuss Wang's psychological motivation of heading for Japan, which is his desire for landscape and sincere friendship. Finally,Wang Tao's contact with his Japanese friends before leaving for Japan is sorted out, which is the realistic foundation of sailing to ancient Japan. From the perspectives of era background, influencing factor and representative poets, the second chapter introduces the development of Chinese poetry in modern Japan. After Meiji restoration, the status of Chinese literature suffered a disastrous decline and even decayed.Meanwhile, the poetic circle late in Qing Dynasty also showed declining tendency, which cut the origin of Chinese poetry in Japan.Under such disadvantages, the poetic circle during Meiji period still presented the strong vitality so that many Chinese poets with intelligence and artistic conception sprang up,which was closely related to the factors such as technology development, education flourish,Sino-Japan contact and responsory poem in scholars' organizations. The contact between Chinese and Japanese scholars represented by Wang Tao directly promoted the prosperity of Chinese poetry during Meiji period. The third chapter focuses on the poetry activity between Wang Tao and Chinese poets in Japan from the perspectives of social environment, contact object and cultural feature. The different social environments, including waterside pavilions, historical sites and liquor stores, endow distinguished artistic conception and themes with replying writing of poem, while the spatial conversion causes change of view and mental state. To start with social environment not only manifests the contents of replying writing of poem and breadth of theme coverage, but also embodies the poets'emotional fluctuation as well as depth of spiritual evolution. The poets keeping in contact with Wang Tao contains the confidants acquainted by sharing the same sufferings and personalities, the talents acquainted because of being attracted by their demeanor and brilliance, and the girl bosom friends with tacit understanding. To contact with different poetries helped Wang Tao to come up with various artistic passions and inspirations. Therefore, writing from this perspective can macroscopically grasp the quantity, style and feature of poets in acquaintance with Wang Tao,and microscopically help perceive their poetic interaction as well as spiritual communication. The comparison between Wang Tao and other official poets in Japan such as Huang Zunxian and He Ruzhang shows the cultural features of poetic interaction between Wang Tao and other Chinese poets in Japan, which are abundant literariness and prominent popularization. The literariness reflects in emotional concentration and thought tension, while the popularization embodies in proper control of emotion along with relative freedom of poetry art.In the views of poetry experience, poetics concept, editing and publication and contact media, the fourth chapter surveys Wang Tao's influence on Chinese poets in Japan.Firstly,Wang Tao provided direct experience for, which triggered a series of new changes in their inclination to selection and adoption of image and literary quotation;e.g.,feminization and singularity of images, enrichment of scholars'literary quotation, and emergence of female literary quotations.Secondly,Wang Tao' s view of poetry, such as "having style on his own and famous for uniqueness","implying true emotion" and "involving and adopting extensively",generated far-reaching influence on Chinese poets in Japan.Meanwhile,Wang also acted as the"editor" that contributed to the publication as well as generalization of Huang Zunxian's Poem of Japan's Sundries and Zeng Tiangong's Overview of History of Qing Dynasty. At last,Wang Tao,after coming back, turned into the media of contact between Chinese and Japanese scholars, who continues to affect Chinese poets in Japan via poetic activities.Oka Senjin's acquaintance with Chinese scholars such as Yuan Zuzhi and Ni Hong during his visit to China cannot be separated from Wang Tao's introduction. The conclusion just summarizes the whole article.Wang Tao,after"escaping" from China, complied with Japanese ideological trend of "redeeming literary" during his "wandering" in Japan.By virtue of series of activities such as responsory poem, criticism and publication,Wang generated far-reaching influence on Chinese poets in Japan, which infused vitality to the Chinese poetry circle in Japan, and promoted the development as well as prosperity of Chinese poetry during Meiji period.
