Judith Butler's feminist gender theory of performance has made great achievements in feminist criticism and gender theory. The paper focuses on Butler's feminist theory of gender exercises and applies it to specific artistic works criticism. The thesis is divided into three chapters. The first chapter is mainly to comb and discuss the theoretical background of Butler's gender theory. The first section discusses the evolution of gender theory from feminist theory to postmodernism.Traditional feminist schools include liberal feminism, socialist feminism, radical feminism, and psychoanalytic feminism. These schools have made a unique analysis of gender theory from different perspectives, but they all focus on gender differences between men and women.Postmodern feminism is essentially different from traditional feminism in that it negates female subjectivity and values discourse power.Butler's gender theory of speech is in this background. The second section discusses the emergence of Butler's theory of acting.Butler's gender theory is based on the inheritance and rebellion of predecessors.Butler rejects the category of women as the cornerstone of feminist theory. He questions the natural nature of physical sex and draws lessons from Freud's"depression." Theory and Lacan's "disguise" theory. In the process,Butler put forward his own theory of gender performance. The second chapter mainly discusses the characteristics of Butler's gender performance theory. There are four characteristics of the theory of gender operation. They are characterized by dramatic performance in performance, performance in performance, absence of subjectivity in performance, and repetition and citation in performance. The first section discusses the dramatization.Butler compares performance with performance, thinking that both express illusory and unnatural things.Gender is an illusion effect. The second section discusses performance as an act.Butler draws lessons from Austin's speech act theory and believes that performing in the same way as speech is a kind of behavior.Gender is created by various gender behaviors. The third section discusses that there is no subject in the exercise.Butler questioned the subjective status of "women" and Lacan's "disguise" theory. He also believed that there was no subject in performance. The gender subject was used as a fictional basis for obtaining legal legality and was constructed by law.Section IV discusses the "repeat" and "citing" nature of the performance.Butler drew on Derrida's“repeat" theory and further argued on the basis of Beauvova' s gender constructivism that performance is as repetitive as speech and will be quoted repeatedly.Gender identity is constantly cited by social norms. In the state,it is not stable. The third chapter discusses the criticism practice of Butler's gender theory. The first section discusses the gender theory of play and Butler's "Sex Burning." Butler's"The Burning of Gender" is a commentary on the film "Paris is Burning." The thesis explains the article from the four aspects of the role of questioning, the two facets of the makeup, the new family relationship, the director's perspective, and hegemony. The second section discusses the theory of gender and the contemporary drama"Butterfly".The thesis expounds the plays from the analysis of "Butterfly Jun" female images and gender conversion.
