Judith Butler is a representative figure of postmodern feminist pioneer.The academic thought core of her is Gender Performativity Theory.In the view of her,gender is no less than theoretical presupposition in metaphysics and there is no solidified gender in practice.Sex and gender are "becoming"not the "be".Many feminist gender theories considered gender can be shaped by culture,but can not avoid sex as "natural" as the presupposition of their theories.The result of these methods lead to part between biological gender and social gender.As Judith Butler says that if we breakup man/woman model,refree gender mobility,we will find the power relationships and aim of whole structure.Gender building that under the power is called Gender Performativity Theory.The new idea of Butler is avoiding sex and social gender separated,breakthroughs the original fixed,singular and closed gender thinking mode.Not only finding new way to study,but also come to eliminate gender discrimination.This paper attempts to develop the gender theory journey of Butler from the following three clues,the first is to tease the previous feminism development veins of Butler;leaving gender theory of Butler research under the feminism questions to find the basic base of Bulter.the second is to recover the background of post-modernism tide where Butler's Gender Theory stands,and it specially analyzes the countless ties between its idea and the thinking theories of Foucault,Derrida,Lacan and other post-modernism representative figures;thirdly,it regards Butler' s Performativity Theory as the key point,and makes the meticulous arrangement on the entire gender theory system;on this basis,discussing Performativity Theory's political and ethics meaning.So,this text concludes four chapters to discuss.In the first chapter of this paper,it asks the classical question focused by the previous feminism theory of Butler——"what is the woman?" again,from which it teases two times of political waves experienced by feminism and the main opinions of three great schools of traditional feminism.Especially for the origin,performance,argument focuses of the dichotomy of sex/gender focused by Butler,and separately lists two representative scholars-Freud and Beauvoir.Subsequently,according to the time sequence,this chapter presents the post-modernism background of Butler,and introduces the scholars of Foucault and Derrida in the work of Butler,emphatically introduces the part that affects Butler Gender Theory in his thinking.In chapter two,it elaborates Gender Performativity Theory of Butler in details.Firstly,it introduces the radical doubt of Butler on the gender identity of "woman";in the next,it reveals the historical pedigree of the concept of female,so as to reveal the heterosexuality graph constructed by the power operation.From the analysis of Levi Strauss structural humanities and the spirits of Freud and Lacan,Butler saw the possibility of heterosexual gender loosening.Therefore,this chapter gives the specific introduction to sexual liquidity,openness,plurality connotation reflected by Butler Performativity Theory.It differentiates three dimensions of the cultural activity of people to separately illustration the shaping and control of the cultural performativity process on gender,these three dimensions are language dimension,performance dimension and ceremony dimension separately.The problem the third chapter attempts to solve is that when gender becomes the result of a performance,the whereabouts of physical materiality is the problem that Butler cannot avoid definitely,so this chapter teases the physical problems of Butler.The first is Butler' s understanding of physical materiality and materialization;in the next,it further introduces the spiritual analysis theory of Freud and Lacan,illustrating that physical materiality is further weakened as an illusion.In the last,it lists two radical post-modern feminism scholars focused by Butler——Kristeva and Wittig.This chapter not only introduces their countermeasure of taking the body as the subversive field and horizon,proposing to oppose paternity culture and the hegemony of heterosexuality,but also teases Butler's doubts and critics on it.In chapter 4,it takes the validity of homosexual marriage as the lead,teases the transition of Butler theory's focusing object from Gender Theory to Queer Politics,and introduces Butler's elaboration and confusion of the relations between personal autonomy and gender politics.In the end,this chapter introduces the transition of Butler's later idea,teases the power operation and performativity in macroscopic national politics and further highlights the openness of Butler theory system.
