This paper takes the work of French contemporary artist Sophie Calle's “Douleur Exquise” as the main subject, making the history of western art and the history of western aesthetics as the deep background of the discussion, and elaborates on the deep reasons why the relationship aesthetics has been reintroduced by western contemporary art theorists since the 1990 s,and the existence and value of relational aesthetics in western contemporary art theory and creative practice. And the paper also put forward the aesthetic orientation of western contemporary art after the 1990s: the beauty of the third field and the relational aesthetics. This paper analyzed and interpreted Sophie Calle's “Douleur Exquise” through the study of sociology of art, phenomenology, hermeneutics, graphics, psychoanalysis and other research methods and related theories of the same genera, this paper specifically discusses the new aesthetic experience in the aesthetic space of the individual spiritual field constructed in Sophie Calle's “Douleur Exquise”,the fragmented narrative traits, and the artistic language of the intertextual qualities in it.In addition, based on the construction of the relational aesthetics in Sophie Calle's“Douleur Exquise”,the supplemental thinking of the theory of relational aesthetics in the context of western contemporary art is considered. The angle of observation of relational aesthetics is not only between the work and the outside world, the composition of relational aesthetics should also be discussed from within the works.Since the 1980's and 1990's,Sophie Calle constructed a series of new and unique art languages in the field of western contemporary art creation. She is a pioneer in the history of western contemporary art that cannot be defined by existing art theory. The artist deserves further exploration.
