This study focuses on the application of meta-cognitive strategy in the instruction of College English Writing by using the qualitative and quantitative methods to analyze the different use of meta-cognitive strategy in English writing for students of different levels and the reasons of such differences.Through strategy training,more students can understand meta-cognitive strategy,develop the awareness of meta-cognitive strategy and enhance their interest of English writing.The main content of this study: The author combines the experimental method with literature analysis,questionnaire survey and the comparative analysis method together to explore the overall use of the meta-cognitive strategy in college English writing,the differences in the use of meta-cognitive strategy for students at different levels,the study of the correlation between students' English writing performance and meta-cognitive strategy.This study can be divided into two parts: The first part aims at the general situation of the using meta-cognitive strategy in non-English majors' English writing in accordance with questionnaires conducted in the researcher's university.The validity and reliability of the questionnaire are tested by a large sample survey.The second part is an empirical study about non-English major freshman through questionnaire and writing tests.The data were collected and analyzed by SPSS 17.0.The results of the research show that: Firstly,there are many significant differences in English writing proficiency among students of different levels.Secondly,there are positive correlations between students' meta-cognitive strategy and their English writing performance.Thirdly,compared with the control class,the students' English writing scores in experimental class were improved significantly after meta-cognitive strategy training.This suggests that college students' English writing proficiency can be improved by planning,monitoring and evaluation strategy.Furthermore,college students' English writing scores and interests can be improved through meta-cognitive strategy training.
