A Study Of Translation Of Lin Yutang's Six Chapters Of A Floating Life From The Perspective Of Traveling Theory

The traveling theory was adopted by Said in the year of 1983,which provided a new angel for the translation research.As the activity of traveling,translating is also an effective approach to spread information and transmit culture.Traveling is a kind of activity in which a person travels from the original point to the destination.During the process,the information is transmitted with the person in the meantime.Just like the traveling,translating is a traveling relating to the time and place.Besides,translating is a kind of intercultural activity.Therefore,it is a new perspective to regard the translating activity as an intralingua activity.Said thinks that the text traveling is consistent with the theory traveling.It consists of three stages: the original point,the process and the arrival.To translate the text is the beginning of the traveling.Because of the differences of the culture and language,the translator has to make some transformations during the translating process.Eventually,the text may be accepted or gain objected when traveled into the new environment.In this thesis,taking the Lin Yutang's translation Six Chapters of a Floating Life(Fu Sheng Liu Ji in Chinese)as example,the author makes some analysis on the transformations in the text from the perspective of the traveling theory.To assure the research more reasonable,the author compares the original text with the target one.By using various translating methods,the translator managed to rewrite the text,and finally made the text more acceptable by the target readers in the traveling process.Finally,the author draws a conclusion: in the traveling process,the text was transformed because of the restriction of language and culture.Besides,it is exactly the transformations that the text traveling got success,and the text was accepted by the new foreign environment.
