The Moderating Effect Of Individual Attachment Style On The Mortality Salience Of Intimacy

The concept of mortality salience is that the scene related to death(earthquake scene,memorial service)or the thing(skull picture)stimulates individual's thinking about death,thus causing death anxiety,simultaneously cause the people experiencing the mood of intense death anxiety.To resist the death anxiety,the individual will develop a certain defense mechanism.At present,scholars have found three kinds of defense mechanisms: defense of world values,defense of self-esteem and defense of intimacy.The main study of anxiety about death is through reminding of death.The reminder of death is based on the theory of terror management.Under the reminding of death,individuals will resist the threat of death anxiety triggered by the death reminder by raising their self-esteem and defending their own cultural worldview and seeking intimacy.The above three kinds of defense mechanism,the earliest study is the world value of defense and self-esteem defense,later study found that intimacy also has a defensive role,the researcher tried to prove that the intimacy of the defensive role,and put the world values,self-esteem into death anxiety Defense system.In the past,the research on the " intimacy mortality salience effect" commonly used the death questionnaire and self-report form to remind the death.In this way,the self-report of the subject affected the role of death reminder.This study through the way of subliminal death reminder and then study how it affect the subject's seeking for intimacy.At the same time,it is necessary to further study whether the individual attachment style has a regulatory effect on the prominent effect of intimate relationship death.And then,through subliminal intimacy we explore the influence of attachment style on the mortality salience effect of intimacy relationship.This study will enrich the contents of death studies.Moreover it can provide evidence for the theory of terror management and also play an active role in enhancing the sense of well-being and changing attitudes towards life.Study Method:Study 1:80 college students were selected to conduct subliminal death priming through Matlab program to explore the difference on intimacy seeking and the satisfaction degree on relationship.Study2:A random sample of 250 undergraduates from a university in northeast China was taken as the subject.The attachment style,death reminder and interpersonal intimacy were measured by questionnaire to explore the regulatory effect of individual attachment style on intimacy of mortality salience effect.Study3:60 subjects were randomly selected from a college in northeastern China.By changing the intimacy measurement method in Experiment 2,the intrinsic relationship of subjects was measured by the MATLAB program,and the interaction between death anxiety,attachment style and implicit intimacy was further explored.Conclusion:(1)There was a significant difference in intimacy seeking and intimacy evaluation between the death and neutral treatment groups.(2)Under mortality salience group,the intimacy of the individual is increased,and the evaluation of intimacy is enhanced.Under the condition of death,attachment avoidance plays a moderating role between death anxiety and intimacy,while attachment anxiety and anxiety regulation are not significant.(3)Through the analysis of implicit intimacy,the regulation of attachment style was analyzed.The research found that the regulation of attachment avoidance and attachment anxiety did not reach the significant level.
