Along with the new round of national curriculum reform for basic education,the reform of the National Matriculation Test(NMT)and the Senior High School Entrance Examination(SHSEE)continued to change and various kinds of examination plans have been carried out throughout the land.According to the Test Direction issued by the China Exam Center in the year 2014,“to change the structure of the examination and the form of grammatical propositions" was the highlight of the reform.The traditional Multiple Choice Questions will be replaced by the Discourse Grammar Cloze Test(DGCT)in the New Curriculum Standard English National Matriculation Test in 2014.Guangdong Province first adopted DGCT in NMT in 2007,and in 2015 Shenzhen began to use this new test form in the SHSEE.Comparing with the Multiple Choice Questions,except for grammar knowledge,words spelling,changes of words and other basic knowledge,DGCT lays more attention on testing students' discourse analysis awareness and discourse analysis abilities,thus DGCT emphasizes more on examining students' overall language abilities and their real language use abilities.However,since DGCT is still a quite new test form,most of the students lack the confidence and discourse analysis awareness,and they do not form their own patterns to settle the problems.Besides,by carrying out the teachers'interview,the author finds that a number of experienced teachers still focus on the grammar knowledge and the translation of DGCT due to lacking the theoretical knowledge about DAT,thus they can not facilitate students to develop their discourse analysis awareness.Meanwhile,after reviewing the correlative studies about DAT at home and abroad,the author classifies the relevant studies into theoretical studies and pragmatic studies,and the relative studies about DGCT are also classified from 3 aspects.By doing the literature review,the author finds that the majority of the teachers tend to combine DAT with the teaching of Cloze Test and reading tests in senior high school,but studies about applying DAT to the teaching of DGCT are relatively few.Besides,since DGCT is quite a new test type,most of the studies focus on summarizing the characteristics and problem solving techniques of DGCT,however,the empirical studies about DGCT and studies that can provide a systematical method for teaching DGCT are quite few.Thus in this thesis the author tries to combine DAT with the teaching of DGCT in junior high school,and tries to answer two research questions:1.What are the problems of students in competing DGCT?2.How dose the application of DAT to the teaching of DGCT influence students' English study and their test performance?And the author hopes the results of this study can not only enrich the relevant studies about DAT and DGCT but also can develop students' discourse analysis awareness and abilities.What's more,students can solve DGCT more effectively by using the scientific and systematic method after the study.The research instruments used in the teaching experiment of this thesis include questionnaires,an interview,a pre-test and a post-test.In this thesis,two parallel classes including 80 students of Guangming New District Experimental School in Shenzhen are chosen as the research subjects.The whole experiment includes the stages of questionnaires,teachers' interview,tests,teaching practice,data collection and analysis.The whole experiment lasts for a whole semester,nearly 4 months,by collecting and analyzing the data of the questionnaires,the interview and the tests,the results can be concluded that students take a positive attitude towards combining DAT with the teaching of DGCT and after the teaching experiment most of the students have made great progress in their problem solving habits,problem solving techniques,discourse analysis awareness and their tests scores also improved a lot.In the end,the author also makes a conclusion about the implications of this study to teachers' teaching and students' learning.Besides,some suggestions towards teachers' teaching and students'learning are also given.
