As we all know,for students,cloze test has always been the most difficult question type in the college entrance examination.At the same time,it is also very difficult for teachers to teach effectively.In daily teaching and learning,how to make students master the cloze solving skills to the maximum extent is of great significance.Over time,a large number of problem-solving methods are discussed and tried in daily teaching.According to the new English curriculum standard,English learning is no longer limited to learning language knowledge and basic skills of listening,speaking,reading and writing,but gradually focuses on cultivating students' ability to use language and communicate comprehensively in practice.Because of this,how to put theory into practice is what teachers should think and solve in their daily teaching.In recent years,a large number of linguists have explored and summarized the characteristics and basic principles of cloze test.Although the study of cloze originated from western education,due to the reason of college entrance examination,its research and application in China have become more and more complete and comprehensive.Based on the essence of cloze in college entrance examination,this paper analyzes this examination question type deeply and comprehensively according to the current research results at home and abroad.As a high school teacher,I also face the difficulty of how to help students solve cloze tesst efficiently and accurately.Looking back current research situation,the problem solving strategies of cloze can be found in Halliday's discourse analysis,and the importance of which in cloze solving skills is obvious.In discourse analysis theory,any discourse has the following four aspects:cohesion,coherence,style and context.In the cloze solving strategies,the intrinsic correlation of these traits effectively helps students find the answer accurately.This study adopts the method of theoretical analysis combined with experimental verification,based on the practical operation of cloze teaching in senior high school English classroom,and takes the two ordinary class students taught by the author as the experimental objects to carry out the experiment of teaching practice.The key research questions are as follows:1)In the application of discourse theory to English teaching in senior high school,whether students' cloze performance can be improved and the ability to solve problems can be cultivated.2)The research aims at finding out how to design a new cloze teaching paln based on discourse analysis theory.According to the previous the theoritical materials and analysis,the author uses the traditional cloze teaching design in the control class,and the daily teaching focuses on the explanation and accumulation of vocabulary and grammar.While in the experimental class,the author uses discourse-based teaching plan to help students solve cloze test.After four months of empirical research,the monthly cloze test results were recorded,and the obtained data were analyzed.It was found that under the guidance of discourse analysis teaching,the average score of the test class was higher than that of the control class and showed a steady upward trend.At the same time,based on the experiment results and analysis,the author presents a newly designed teaching plan for daily cloze test teaching with the intention of offering more practical and productive teaching strategies and ways.Based on discourse analysis theory,this paper focuses on the application of discourse theory in high school cloze test teaching,and also proposes that teachers can use a variety of practical strategies in the cloze teaching in real situations.The aim is to make more teachers pay attention to the importance of discourse theory,put forward more effective cloze teaching practice methods as well as improve the daily teaching methods.At the same time,from the perspective of students,they also explore how to familiarize themselves with discourse theory,understand its essence,and gradually improve their ability and accuracy in cloze test.
