The Study On Li Xiaofeng's Documentaries Of Style

In China,creators of independent documentaries,with their keen and ingenious perspective,are committed to documenting imperceptible aspects in our society.Li Xiaofeng,a Chinese creator of independent documentaries in the beginning of the 21 th century,his works with his unique and distinctive style have a great influence on us.but they are rarely mentioned in the current documentary study.The author believes that this situation should be changed,therefore,to have a comprehensive and thoroughly discussed in Li's documentary research.The thesis attempts to conduct an overall and thorough analysis of Li's documentaries,aiming to clarify its style and proceed to research on the involvement of documentaries.The ultimate objective is to reveal the fact that the involvement of documentaries not only involves the life of the photographer.There is also another type of involvement for the creator's life.The thesis falls into four chapter.The first chapter summarizes creations of Li's documentaries,which includes the change of historical background and the presentation of Li's creation background and creation values.The second,third and fourth chapter sums up Li's style on the basis of his work.As documentaries embody the director's creation value,Li's works all epitomizes the idiosyncrasy that Li intends to convey.Therefore,interpretation on Li's work leads to the research on his style and familiarity with him.Chapter two dissects the metaphorical elements in Li's work and further reveals the metaphorical meaning contained in “Ceremonial Symbols”,“Life Symbols” and “Symbols in Surreal Scene”.Chapter three discusses the defamiliarization effect in Li's documentaries.What features this chapter is that the involvement of the creator is regarded as a way of image defamiliarization in order to excavate the image meaning behind defamiliarization.Chapter four emphasizes the poetic characteristics in Li's documentaries which implicate a sense of gloomy.As what Li's poetry has conveyed,his documentaries provide diverse interpretations from internal to external.Nonetheless,compared with poetry,his documentaries prompt more profound reflection.In conclusion,through his documentaries,Li is able to capture the destinies of an individual,a group of individuals or a class in the present society.Furthermore,Li is also able to raise humanistic awareness and public awareness in more people's heart,which are bound to become common understandings and trigger profound reflection on realities.
