English reading comprehension plays an important role in English exams.The teaching of English reading has always been one of the main contents of high school English teaching.The new curriculum standard put forward higher requirements for the effectiveness of high school English reading.In order to comply with the requirements of the curriculum,it is necessary to improve the effective teaching of English reading.The core of schema theory is to connect new things with previous background knowledge.Similarly,reading is the process of interaction between the schemas in the reader's mind and the information provided by language materials.Using the schema theory to guide the teaching of high school English text reading,activate and help students to establish the corresponding schema in the mind.And also integrating the main content into the information network stored in the students' minds,and make the text structured,which can not only help students understand the content of the text better,but help them to master reading skills,develop reading abilities,and improve their reading levels.This research investigates and analyzes the current situation of the application of schemata theory in high school English reading classes.It takes the teachers and students in No.16 Middle School in Zhengzhou as examples,and uses questionnaires,interviews,and classroom observations to conduct research.The research questions are as follow: 1)What is the current situation of the application of schema theory in the teaching of English reading? 2)What are the major problems in the application of schema to the English reading class? 3)What are the causes of these problems ?This study is divided into five chapters.The first chapter introduces the research background,significance and thesis framework.The second chapter reviews the relevant research literature and domestic and foreign related research.The third chapter elaborates on the research issues,including research questions,research objectives,research tools,and data collection.The fourth chapter analyzes and discusses the data obtained after the study.The last chapter is about the conclusion and findings of the study.After the investigation and analysis,the research shows that: 1)High school English teachers have certain expectations for applying schema theory to teaching.However,due to the limitations of some conditions,there are some deficiencies.Students lack confidence in reading and have some bad habits in the reading process.2)There are many problems in the process of teachers apply schema theory in teaching,such as teachers have insufficient understanding of the theory itself.And teachers apply schema theory in teaching is unilateral,and also they lack of expert's guidance and peer communication.3)There are many reasons for these problems.For example,teachers do not have enough time and energy,lack of training and expert guidance.Through the investigation and study of this article,the author hopes to improve the effectiveness of teachers' application of schema theory in English reading teaching.
