Based on the epitaphs related to the description of mother-child relationship in the middle and early Ming Dynasty,this paper makes a longitudinal comparison between the contents of the mother-son relationship in the early and middle period of the Ming Dynasty,and makes a horizontal analysis of the mother-son relationship from the perspective of knowledge women,orphans and widows and businessmen.First of all,the mother-son relationship in the epitaph show the commonality.Mother’s role is mainly to have children and teach children,the son is asked to follow the filial piety.Secondly,the mother-son relationship in the epitaph is always affected by the era and background,resulting to some new phenomenon and different focus.As a literature to mourn,the behavior and speech in the epitaph are not the direct expressions of the spiritual world of the of mothers and sons.As the right to speak handled in the male literati,the description of the Mother-son relationship is both limited by the Confucian ideology and the gender awareness of the constraints.The mother-son relationship in the epitaph is a partial reflection of the real life,it’s also the result of the general expectation of the author and the society.Therefore,the relationship between mother and son in the middle and early Ming dynasties shows obvious typification and ideal.
