The Study Of The Changes And Endangered Situation Of The Haining Shadow Play

This paper discusses the historical changes of the Haining Shadow Play,analyzes the reasons behind it so as to reveal the endangered situation of the Haining Shadow Play,and tries to provide feasible suggestions for its sustainable development.This paper mainly uses the methods of literature review,direct observation and semi-structured interview.The three core elements of the Haining shadow play including repertoire,music accompaniment and shadow puppet have changed greatly.The repertoire is mainly pantomime,its content is simplified,and its lines are reduced which mainly uses the Mandarin as the performing language.The music accompaniment is mostly recording accompaniment.and there are more national musical instruments and some western instruments.Besides teaching orally,the music socre,vidio and audio recording are also new modes of instrument inheritance.The puppets' material is cowskin which is purchased from certain places,and the leather making process is simplified.Beyond that,the puppets are also regarded as the commodity and cultural representation.Above changes are closely related to the troupes and its social environment.In this paper,the Haining Shadow Play is facing endangered situations including the difficulties of the inheriting of the accompaniment and puppet manufacturing,lack of funds,the changes of the cultural ecological environment,and the weak ability of innovation.I think the government,troupes and social power should cooperate with each other to protect,inherit and develop the Haining shadow play.The government should establish and perfect the legal system and supervision mechanism.The troupes should explore the appropriate way into the market.And the social groups and the public should actively participate in the protection and inheritance of shadow play.By these ways,there will be a good living environment which contributes to the sustainable development of the Haining Shadow Play.
