The cultivation of reading abilities is an important part of education and has a lot to do with students' thinking skills.As an important part of English learning,English reading is a good way to cultivate English learners' reading abilities and thinking skills.The junior middle school stage is a golden stage in the development of students' abstract thinking skills,and Grade 8 is the golden stage of students' junior middle school life,if English teachers can give the right guidance to students of this age,it will be able to develop their thinking skills properly and improve their reading abilities fast.In a new round of junior middle school English teaching reform,the textbooks "Go for it" in Grade 7 and Grade 8 have changed a lot since 2013,the English reading texts in Grade 8 textbooks after revision are more flexible,more informative,more comprehensive and they require students to do more thinking.So when teachers face these reading texts,how will they design the teaching steps?What is the point of reading teaching?In what way will the students learn the text?Through reading training,what reading level will students achieve?This is the focus of this thesis.The main structure and main contents of this thesis are as follows:Preface.This part will mainly introduce the research background,research significance,research method,core concept definition,the review of domestic and foreign research.In the first part will explain the current situation of Grade 8 students and the characteristics of Grade 8 English reading in Zhongshan city.The English cognition level of Grade 8 students will be analyzed,the characteristics of both Grade 8 English textbooks and the reading tasks will be talked about.The second part is about the problems and causes that happen while developing reading ability in Grade eight English reading class.This part will summarize the problems and causes in Zhongshan Grade eight English reading class.The third part is the strategies and effects while developing English reading ability in Grade eight.This part concludes four parts:"Stimulate Interest,Cultivate Habits","Cultivate Strategies,Pay Attention to Cultural Differences","Focus on Problem Setting,Follow Developing Rules","Diversify Teaching Methods,Train High Leveled ReadingAbility".After that,explain whether the training strategy in Grade eight is effective or not.The last part is the concluding remarks.
