| As “critical thinking ” was put forward,developing students’ critical thinking abilities has become a hot topic in education.Scholars at home and abroad have achieved great achievements in the research of critical thinking.Especially,Chinese language educators have devoted themselves to the cultivation of critical thinking in the past few years.However,more researches are aimed at college students majoring in English or non-English.This thesis aims to guide middle school students to read with critical reading strategies,to cultivate and develop students’ critical thinking abilities and improve their reading.I have analyzed the causes of lacking in critical thinking abilities,the features of the reading parts of our text books,the features of the students’ thinking development,and I have studied the teaching approaches and strategies about critical reading as well.The experiment focuses on two questions:(1)Can critical reading improve students’ reading abilities?(2)Can critical reading promote positive changes in students’ critical thinking tendency?According to the experiment,the experimental class and the control class are set up to carry out a one-year teaching experiment.Before the experiment,the experimental class is tested on the critical thinking tendency.At the same time,both the experimental class and the control class are tested on their reading abilities.The result says there is no significant difference between the two classes.During the experiment,another test is used to test students’ reading proficiency between the two classes.After the experiment,the critical thinking tendency and the reading abilities are tested again.Compared with the data before the experiment,there are positive changes in the thinking tendencies(analytical tendency,inquisitive tendency,cognitive maturity and thinking openness)and significant differences in their reading abilities.In more than a year’s research,I think English teachers must take critical teaching strategies into consideration.Reading is undoubtedly the most important part of English learning,and it is also an indispensable way for students to obtain information.When designing classroom teaching,teachers should incorporate learning activities with critical thinking,which can be used to guide students to think,solve problems and improve their thinking abilities,so as to comprehensively improve students’ reading thinking abilities. |
