Research Of Warsaw Concerto Performance

Warsaw Concerto,created by the British composer Richard Addinsell(1904-1977)in the1950 s,is a theme song of the movie �Dangerous Moonlight�,which is also his masterpiece over his life.Nowadays,the movie has slowly faded out from memory.The Warsaw Concerto itself,however,has been often performed in major concerts.The brilliant background melody and varied musical color of this masterpiece,a representative of the British musical works,has deeply touched every single listener.The film soundtrack version was initially directed by the famous conductor Roy Douglas(1907-2015).Later it has been recorded by major symphony orchestras over a hundred times.Starting from the creation background and characteristics of Warsaw Concerto,this thesis is mainly focusing on the study of its interpretation,performance and comprehensive analysis theoretically and practically.The dissertation is divided into four chapters.In the first chapter,the creation background and characteristics are introduced.The second chapter by analyzing scenes from �Dangerous Moonlight�,reveals how performers should properly handle their emotions when performing Warsaw Concerto.In the third chapter,the author discusses on three main topics to analyze key points of Warsaw Concerto piano performance,including performing level and speed arrangement,the use of soft pedals and the difficulty of performing techniques,after referring relevant piano performances and combining with own piano knowledge and experiences on playing Warsaw Concerto.The author also integrates relevant performance theory and experiences into the thesis,and expounds own perspectives as a researcher and performer.The intention is to provide insights for those music lovers who will perform this work in the future through in-depth and multi-angle analysis.
