A Report On The E-C Translation Of Pension Protection Act Of 2006

Under the background of globalization,to know more about the laws of other countries not only conduces to take others' strengths to make up own weaknesses but also promotes mutual exchanges and cooperation.Because of that,fast development of the international communities needs higher participation rate of the legal translation,and there are higher demands for the relevant translators.The author wrote the report according to the E-C translation of Pension Protection Act of 2006(Pension Protection Act of 2006 is called PPA for short).Under the guidance of register theory,she analyzed the characteristics of the filed,tenor and mode in the legal text,and mastered its textual language features on the whole: the textual language should be formal,precise and concise in terms of the field;in the application of tenor,the correct use of modal verbs and passive voice is conducive to present the communication relationships in the text;in the analysis of mode,it is beneficial to show the textual function of the legal text by using cohesion and nominalization properly.From the translation project,the author holds the view as follows.Rational allocation of the teamwork made the translation project develop smoothly.As one of the translators on the team,the author made a full preparation before translating,including the understanding of the background information,the collection of relevant bilingual legal texts,the analysis of the source text,and the choice of assisted translation tools like MemoQ.During the translation,the author together with the teammates unified the terms timely and kept a close contact.The self-proofreading,peer-proofreading and the collection of the client's feedback guaranteed the translation quality.As far as the author is concerned,a professional translator should possess a high level of English and Chinese,making bilingual progress simultaneously.Last but not least,it is significant to master deep understanding of translation theories in the translation,so the author will strengthen the learning of theoretical knowledge further for better guidance of future practice.
