As the implementation of the policy of reform and opening up,the communication and cooperation among China and other countries are getting increasingly closer.At the meantime,the significance of engineering translation in international exchanges has become increasingly apparent.However,there are a few studies about the water conservancy irrigation translation.Accordingly,the study of translation in water conservancy irrigation field has become more necessary and significant.This report is based on one of the author's translation project--Kenya National Water Conservancy Irrigation Project for Coffee Plantation.Under the guidance of Skopos Theory,the author tries to expound the translation difficulties,brings forward the translation solutions by analyzing the differences between English and Chinese with case study,and summarizes some related translation strategies and techniques including literal translation,free translation and conversion at the lexical level,as well as division,syntactic linearity and order adjustment at the syntactic level.The translation project consists of two parts: the first part is the translation practice,which is to translate the Kenya National Water Conservancy Irrigation Project for Coffee Plantation from Chinese into English.The second part is the translation project report in accordance with this translation practice.This thesis consists of four parts: The first part is about the introduction of the project,including the introduction of the project background,as well as the purpose and significance of the project.The requirements for the project translation is contained as well;the second chapter is bound up with the process description,introducing in details the preparation for the project translation,translation process and translation revision;The third part is the main body of the paper,discussing the translation difficulties which includes some terms and semi-terms at the lexical level as well as long and complicated sentences at the syntactic level,and solutions under the guidance of Skopos;the fourth chapter is a summary of the whole translation project,including the self-reflection,feedback fromcompany and client and suggestions.Through this translation study,the author hopes this paper can provide reference for the future researchers who are engaged in the water conservancy irrigation translation.
