“Monster opera” is a unique type of Chinese classical opera, and it has created many images of typical monsters.Compared with the common characters, the particularity of the monster's image is mainly manifested in three aspects: it's concept is evolutionary,it's images are comprehensive, and it usually takes the religious form. The monsters presented in the opera scripts are mainly snake, fox, tree, flower, fish, ape, and so on.What's more, these monsters are quite different in characters, life experiences, situations, and so they end differently. They share something in common: they take no sophisticated coverage of their natural personality, they show braveness in challenging the traditional custom, and there are also conflicts in their ethnic consciousness. However, the differences are obvious: their struggles of humanity in a world full of vulgarity;the monster perspective in viewing the human being and the monsters;and the sharp edges of the characters standing out of millions of monsters. The monsters' profile and the monster show's theme is closely related, which includes the persuasion function and the religious salvation.Whether it is the establishment of the monsters' images or the main theme of the “monster opera”,it plays an important guiding role in the psychology of the audience, especially the psychological expectation of a “happy ending”.
