With the rapid development of animation industry in the United States,Japan and othercountries,animation began to garner attention from countries all over the world,and Chineseanimation design is also in a period of rapid development. The molding design in animationdesign plays an important role in the whole works, which is the key to success or failure of oneworks. As an important element of animation molding design, Monster elements are more andmore being applied to the design, even more and more animation works are taking monsters asthe main line theme, especially reflected in Japanese animation. But with the rapid developmentof animation molding design in China,there are many problems in it. The monster modeling inthe current animations basic all blindly imitate American sci-fi modeling style or the beauty styleof Japanese animation, and ignore the original shape of our national characteristics and lack ofcreativity and breakthrough.The style design of Chinese cartoons lacks innovation andbreakthrough. There aren’t enough national characteristics and explicit styles of painting in thestyle design. The styles focuses more on educational meanings but are not that interesting. Theseare problems needing modern authors of cartoons to solve.This paper is based on the creation of the monster molding in animation, through systemanalysis and scientific method to study how to better designed the flexible and vivid monstermodeling. First,it analyzed the classification of painting style of the monster molding, and pavedthe way for the positioning of modeling design.In cartoons with themes of monsters of humanshapes, different styles of monsters have different characteristics. The design of cartoon styles iscomplicated. A vivid human-shape monster is successfully designed first by deep understandingof it’s characteristics and then conclusions grouped by styles of painting. Though the style isfictitious, their designers need to keep the forms of styles in their minds to constantly analyze thedesign elements and features of monsters which should be highlighted differentstyles.Next,summarized the design rules of monster modeling in animation, and offered areasonable basis for it.This can not only lead the style design, but also make designers in thefuture more convenient to innovate with domestic culture, offering Chinese cartoons with ourown elements instead of just borrowing and imitation. And then,it sorted out a set of drawingmethod of the monster modeling design in animation. Finally, through a series of studies onmonster modeling design, it found out the weakness of the current domestic animation in modeling design and the inspirations to us. Cartoons are often bind with cultures. As carriers ofculture, cartoons use stories and drawings to express cultures. If a cartoon is without culturalelements, it can’t survive long for being “water without origin”.In general, through theintegration of cultural elements, modeling techniques, painting style characteristics, existingproblems and other factors, this paper provides a design thought for the monster modeling designin animation. The subject has experienced a complete learning process from the initial theoryanalysis, actual investigation to final design practice.This essay is divided into five parts todiscuss and study in aspects such as origin, styles of painting, regular patterns, techniques andinspirations. And this essay puts forward the regular patterns of style designs of monsters anddesigns the techniques of paintings, hoping to provide help for similar cases in the future.
