The Body Turning And The Moral Implication Of Embodied Cognition

Great changes have taken place in the 1980 s fields of cognitive science.Due to the traditional cognitivism focusing too much on the calculation process of mental representation,and ignore other factors,lead to the results of the study disconnected with reality.Meanwhile the theory of mind-body dualism challenged both internally and externally.At the moment,the scholars began to realize that the cognitive process is not only abstract symbol information processing,but also in practice,from the body and body experience and interaction with the environment,to explore the evolution and development of human cognition.Since then,the cognitive research paradigm from the duality of body and mind to the unity of body and mind.This dissertation focuses on the development background of embodied cognition,content of the theory and application of moral field.Through the above three aspects,the author summarized the theory of embodied cognition,aiming to further understand development direction of contemporary emerging cognitive ideological trend in the history and the future.The paper is divided into three parts:The first part is analyzed in chronological order and sorts out the historical development of cognition from disembodied to embodied,then analyzes the inevitability of body turning in cognition.Firstly,the relationship between body and mind in traditional cognition is expounded.Binary thinking of body and mind has been throughout the western theory of psychology,which is from the Cartesian dualism of body and mind is established,to the emergence of behaviorism in the context of the argument between constructivism and functionalism,and to the rise of cognitive revolution under the development of computer science.Then,by discussing the development of symbolism and connectionism in first generation cognitive science,it reveals that the root of the dilemma lies in the idea of the disembodied.In the end,the idea of the embodied has broken through the shackles of the embodied and become a new cognitive theory entered the historical arena.The second part emphatically elaborates the ideological content of embodied cognition.First,explain the concept of the embodied.I found three theories about embodied which from Lakoff and Johnson,Wilson and Hao-sheng Ye respectively.By comparing and summarizing three theories is which explaining the connotation of the embodied,the author puts forward my own view in this dissertation.Then,the theoretical content of embodied cognition is expounded from three aspects,namely,embodied mind,the role of the body in cognition and the situated cognition.The third part from perspective of embodied cognition analyzes the cognitive dimension of body and the occurrence mechanism of morality.This mechanism for research in the multidisciplinary perspectives such as moral psychology and neuroscience,emphasis on physical experience is the foundation of the representation of moral concepts,physical participation is an important factor of moral behavior.And the interaction between body and environment is the basic condition for the construction of moral consciousness.
