Practice Report On C-E Translation Of Abstracts Of Academic Journal Papers In Foreign Languages And Literature

as the essence of the paper,plays an increasingly important role for the paper to be recognized and included.English abstracts of journal papers in China is actually a task of translation instead of writing.However,it is very difficult for many researchers in China to express their ideas in English exactly.Therefore,studying the English translation of Chinese abstracts and proposing significant strategies is full of great practical significance.The translation of abstracts is a kind of translation with the purpose of information transmission and academic communication,and Chinese and English have completely different modes of thinking and totally diverse language style.Explicitation is an outstanding feature during the translation from Chinese into English to achieve the communicative purpose.The author identifies the major difficulties and typical problems during the abstract translation process,analyzes and proposes some translation strategies according to the abstract translation practice under the guidance of explicitation theory.Two kinds of explicitation strategies are provided in this report,obligatory explicitation as well as optional explicitation.Obligatory explicitation includes four aspects of explicitation: the explicitation of articles,the explicitation of tenses,the explicitation of conjunctions and the explicitation of personal pronouns.Optional explicitation consists of two perspectives: the explicitation of voice and the explicitation of predicate.Through using these kinds of strategies,the implicit information in the source text in Chinese abstracts is explicit in the text target in English abstracts.It is hoped that the report can provide a valuable reference for abstract translation research on academic journal papers in foreign languages and literature,and help researchers to improve the academic quality of papers as well as consequently facilitate the publication.
