A Study Of Interpretation On Classical Chinese Quoted By Xi Jinping From The Perspective Of Relevance Theory

With the increasingly significant role of China in foreign affairs in recent years,the speeches given by Xi Jinping have caught much attention.He likes to quote from famous classical Chinese in his speeches,and his quotations have been complimented by the public everywhere.Due to the unique structure and characteristics of classical Chinese,there are quite a few difficulties and problems in interpretation.As a consequence,the analysis on the interpretation of the classical Chinese quoted by Xi Jinping has been a hot issue all the time.As a continuously developing theory,relevance theory has a good compatibility with interpretation.It also analyzes interpretation practice from different perspectives.Nevertheless,interpretation is not always analyzed from the aspects of explicature and implicature in relevance theory.Therefore,it is necessary to study the interpretation of the classical Chinese quoted by Xi Jinping from this perspective.The objects of this thesis are the interpretation of ancient poem,ancient prose,idiom and proverb.From the perspective of explicature and implicature in relevance theory,the thesis creatively puts forward explicature interpretation and implicature interpretation concepts to illustrate the interpretation of classical Chinese.The cases studied in the thesis were transcribed mainly from Xi Jinping's speeches made in recent five years.The innovation point of the thesis is that it combines explicature and implicature concepts in relevance theory with interpreting process,refines explicature translation and implicature translation concepts,puts forward explicature interpretation and implicature interpretation concepts and applies them to the analysis on the interpretation of the classical Chinese quoted by Xi Jinping,expecting to provide new ideas for classical Chinese interpretation.
