The source text of the translation report is selected from Chapter 27 “physical fitness” of Special Physical Education: Adapted,Individualized,Developmental written by Hollis.F.Fait,a textbook developed for individuals with disabilities in physical education. It proposes techniques and methods in physical education for the disabled in fields of physical education programs, psychological education, medicine, and therapeutic recreation based on multiple education theories.Chapter 27 discusses the definitions, principles of components of physical education and their corresponding testing methods.Besides,it puts emphasis on the significance of physical fitness for the disabled in mental and physical aspects, featuring professional and technical style.Based on the theory of “translation shifts” put forward by Catford, this translation practice report discusses the difficulties and corresponding translation strategies and methods from lexical and syntactical level. In lexical level, the translation difficulties of technical words, professional organizations, shift of meaning from daily words, reporting and compound words are discussed, whose translation strategies are analyzed and settled from “class shifts” and “intra-system shifts” and “unit shifts”;In syntactical level, the translation difficulties lie in complicated sentences, nominalization, and passive voice, whose translation strategies are analyzed and settled from “unit shifts”,“class shifts” and “structure shifts”.Through studies on the above two aspects, the source text can be more accurate and fluent. This translation practice report makes a conclusion about translation strategies and methods for texts with professional and technical style, providing reference and guidance for such discourses.
