In the urban space, most of the production of folk culture has been detached from its native context, and its production activities mainly cater to the “other”.It's also formed in the interaction of many social relations. In addition, compared with rural space, urban space is inhabited and doesn't have strong stability.Under this context, folk culture has turned to behave, showing the characteristics of confusion and popularization.Combining the present, historical and cultural districts, which are the gathering places of folk culture, have emerged in large numbers in the urban space and have formed a unique cultural phenomenon in our country.Shanghai as an early-developed tourist city in our country, the formation of Tianzifang has its own particularity and its universality. After the “bottom-up” old city renews and reforms,it forms the cultural and artistic ideas park that we see today.Through various methods such as field investigation and literature collection, this paper presents the production process of folk culture in Tianzifang: firstly,Tianzifang has transformed from the production space to the art space and changed from the residential space to the commercial space, both under the game of multiple rights relations.Shikumen architecture in Tianzifang has become a space platform for the production, protection, display, continuation and reprod uction of folk culture. To some extent,it has been marginalized and become a vassal of the consumer age.Secondly, under this space, through the “folklorism”,Shanghai's local folk culture was re-produced and culture was revived. On the other hand,as Sha nghai is a city of immigrants, foreign folk culture and foreign cultural has also continued to emerge and transfer. In this way, consumerism has brought about the consumption of traditional, local, and other cultural symbols. With it,folk culture has been objectified,resource-resourced,and valued.Third,in the urban space, the production of this folk culture is not self-conducted,but formed in the interaction of many social relations between the government, merchants, artist groups, local residents, and the media and the Internet.Based on this, the conclusion reached in this paper is that in the contemporary urban context, the production of folk culture has the following characteristics: firstly, the “chimeraization” of folk culture;secondly, folk culture turns to mass culture. From a certain perspective,Tianzifang can be a microcosm of the current development of folk culture. And it can represent the trend of folk custom production and folk culture in contemporary China or in the era of globalization to certain extent. The innovation of this article is to study from the perspective of consumer culture in urban space, breaking through the research paradigm that traditional folklore focuses on rural areas and ethnic minority villages, and focusing on specific urban space to pay attention to the transformation of the current folk cultural patterns. This study also promotes to enrich contemporary urban folklore studies and consider the transformation issues from traditional folklore to contemporary folklore.
