Why does Tibetan have a large number of huge and magnificent monastery building? Its natural environment is poor, even if the economic development is backward. The construction of these temples requires a great deal of manpower, material and financial resources. It isn't a irrational decision of a religious leader.Apart from the factor of religion itself, there are other factors that promote the development of monasteries.Based on the theory of religious market,on the premise of rational choice hypothesis. It is assumed that religious demand is stable and analyzed from the perspective of religious supply.Taking religious market competition as a perspective of research.Taking the Tibetan Buddhism sect as a clue.Taking the temple scale as a logical starting point for analysis. To explain the above sect organization temple construction behavior.During the Ming Dynasty, the central government adopted the ethnography of policy."More public construction" let different Tibetan Buddhist sects in a relatively loose and relaxed environment for competitive development. The monastery is not only the practice of monks, but also the place of production of religious products. In the process of providing religious products, competing for believers and economic resources in different sects, the size of monastery construction may become a rational choice for sectarian competition strategy. This paper attempts to empirically test the hypothesis. In this paper, the sectarian is regarded as a manufacturer for economic analysis.Presuming the competitive conditions of the religious market, the preliminary analysis of the size of the monastery with the Stackelberg-Spence-Dixit model has a deterrent effect on potential competitors. The original sects through the monastery scale construction of potential competitors to release their ability to protect the market signal,to potential competitors to show off the strength to prevent potential competitors to enter the market. To select the Tibetan Buddhist monastery area and the number of columns and other data to describe the size of the monastery. To test the situation of the monastery as a sectarian competition.Constructing a twostage regression model by means of instrumental variables and perform a series of robustness tests.Under the control of geographical and socio-economic factors, the empirical estimation results show that the size of monasteries significantly affects the situation of monasteries.IVProbit model estimats the correlation coefficient of the temple scale is significantly positive at the 1%.If the scale of the temple rises by 1 unit, the temple will maintain a significant increase of 0.165.The empirical result supports this hypothesis.Meanwhile, the continuous expansion of the scale of the temple led to a solemn effect, which also add the Tibetan temple architecture and sectarian sphere of influence of the phenomenon. The method of analysis of the religious market helps to increase our understanding of issues such as temple size and religious development.
