Teachers are advocated to build students' self-confidence,guide students to use reading strategies,develop students' reading ability,set up students' cooperation spirit,improve students' cross-cultural awareness in English reading teaching in junior middle school by new curriculum standard.Feuerstein's mediation theory is consistent with the concept of new curriculum,which can be used to guide teachers to satisfy the requirements of new curriculum.Therefore,it is of great necessity for English teachers to play mediation role in reading class.Based on Feuerstein's mediation theory and Bloom's taxonomy of educational objectives,the author makes 12 mediation roles involved in mediation theory as the content of research and conducts the research in Weinan Gaoxin Middle School.By observing the reading classes of 4 English teachers,the author analyzes the performance of teacher's mediation role.By conducting questionnaire to 211 students,the author investigates students' perceptions on the importance and performance of teacher's mediation role by means of SPSS20.0.By interviewing 6 students and 4teachers,the author investigates their in-depth views on teacher's mediation role.The research has three findings.First,teachers and students generally agree on the importance of 12 teacher's mediation roles in English reading teaching in junior middle school.Especially,the perceptions between teachers and students have a certain similarity.Second,the author finds that in reading teaching practice,teachers more often play the mediation role of significance and a sense of competence,less often play a sense of belonging,sharing,challenge,awareness of change and individuality.It can be seen that teachers pay more attention to the teaching of knowledge and simple reading tasks,but they less develop students' abilities ofself-control and self-development in English reading teaching.Third,teachers and students generally expect the mediation role of sharing,individuality and a sense of belonging can be played better so as to promote students' self-development in English reading class.Based on school-based research,it is suggested for teachers to guide students to appropriately use reading strategies,create opportunities for students to read in thinking,organize cooperative learning activities,encourage students' personalized development and cultivate students' cross-cultural awareness.Teachers are expected to improve the awareness of mediation role in English reading teaching,and fully play the role as a mediator so as to become a powerful mediator and helper in the process of students' reading.
