In the territory of worldwide documentary,self-documentaries occupy a unique place.It shows unique creative techniques and artistic style,both the concept and the technique are different from the traditional documentary or mainstream documentary.In the process of self-documentary production,the orientation of the camera has changed,so that the movie no longer pursues the objective view of the “fly on the wall”,but highlights the subjective expression of director.The camera began to shoot oneself or his/her friends and family to exposed the daily life and spirit of the director,thus to build an independent private field and show the unique aesthetic value.In the new media era,everyone has a personal media platform because of the development of digital technique.The personal and civil communicator can spread and share their images easily,the public are used to express and satisfy themselves easily.Human can easily use technology to intervene in private life,resulting in the proliferation and alienation of self-documentary.Its purpose is no longer to know oneself,but to use private labels to gain interests.For the esthetic crisis encountered by self-documentary in the new media era,we need to find a solution.The decisive factor of the development of self-documentary is not technology itself,but the one who use the technology.When rethinking the value and meaning of personal image,we should return to the essence of Chinese traditional culture.In any era,human should insist on the original purpose of discover and shape oneself.So,the study of the value and meaning of self-documentary in new media era can search a new way of the making of self-documentary and help the producer of self-documentary to find a better route of production.
