| Xun Kuang lived at the late period of warring state in which it was often at war and inwhich it was in the end of age of Zixue as well.Taking the traditional Confucianism as the starting point,collecting various schools of thoughts,synthesizing different views of ethic,Xun Kuang gradually developed his own unique thoughts of virtue ethics.Aristotle,the prime example of Greek philosophy,created western virtue ethic and made a profound influence in the thought of ethic.Therefore,Xun Kuang and Aristotle are the two scholars who cannot be neglected in the study of virtue ethic.Situating in Chinese and western civilization respectively,with slight time difference,the thoughts of Xun Kuang and Aristotle were the products of different civilization.Based on the previous study,Xun Kuang and Aristotle,whose success was mixed,introduced new from old thoughts,focused on experience and emphasized humanism even if they lived in the turbulent times of ancient China and the West,making a remarkable influence in the history of the thoughts of ethic.Moreover,there is a difference between the progress and objectives of the study to the thoughts of virtue ethic and between the concrete ideas each other.It is the difference that promotes the value and meaning of studying their thought.This study aims at discussing virtue ethic thoughts of Xun Kuang and Aristotle by literature research methods and comparative analysis from the following four aspects.First of all,Chapter One introduced the background of the study,the significance of the study and the status of the study,which established the orientation of the study.Secondly,Chapter two illustrated the background of the thoughts of Xun Kuang and Aristotle.The study elaborated the historical background of their thoughts from the aspects of society,ideological background and the theory of human nature and specified the influencing factors and basement of Xun Kuang and Aristotle's original thoughts.Thirdly,Chapter Three demonstrated the content of Xun Kuang and Aristotle's virtue ethic thoughts,which is the core content of the study.The study discussed their virtue ethic thoughts on connotation,the way of achieving the virtue ethics and ultimate goals,which later were compared,aiming at finding out the similarities and differences of Chinese and western virtue ethic thoughts and at deepening the understanding of Chinese and western civilization.Fourthly,Chapter Four discusses the significance and revelation of the comparison of virtue ethic thoughts between Xun Kuang and Aristotle.The significance of it is based onthe communication of oriental and occidental cultures and on the analysis of contemporary value.Then,the study further discusses the moral inspiration of the virtue ethic thoughts between Xun Kuang and Aristotle for contemporary citizens and society.In conclusion,this study explores the differences and connections between the virtue ethic thoughts of Xun Kuang and of Aristotle.The findings indicates that there is a essential difference between ethic culture in China and in the West.Furthermore,this study elaborates the importance of virtue ethic thoughts for modern people in the matter of the improvement of individual virtue and external standard of virtue. |
