In the history of modern and contemporary Chinese literature,Ding Ling is a writer who attracts worldwide attention.She has created a number of vivid women in her novels,and these women,under the trend of the times,present some spiritual characteristics,which embodies rich female spiritual connotations.With the development of the New Cultural Movement,a new generation of Chinese female writers and Chinese women's literature has come into being.Compared with other female writers,it could be seen that Ding Ling's personal experience,unique writing style and ideal pursuit are out of the ordinary.What's more,the unique spiritual glamour of the female images in her novels is of great importance.The first type of female images in Ding Ling's novels is the rebels who were struggling to get rid of traditional thought.Represented by Meng Ke(Meng Ke)and Safi(Ms.Safi's Diary),their spirit of loneliness and autonomy are protruding described in this period.The second type of female image is the breakers who had decisive choice between revolution and love.They are represented by Represented by Meilin(The Spring of Shanghai in 1930)and Miss Three(Tianjia Thoroughfare).Their breakthrough spirit from individual to group is the mark of the times.The third type of female image is the revolutionaries' women who have social responsibility to fight with the masses,to be with a sense of social responsibility and willing to fight alongside the masses.Represented by Grandma Chen(The New Faith)and Zhenzhen(When I was in the Xia Village),the female revolutionaries written by Ding Ling had shown great spirits of political institutions and social revolution.In this part,women's strong vitality,the traditional view of virginity and the national revolution would be deeply discussed.The last type of female image is the builders had ideal pursuit and unremitting practice in building the society.Represented by Du Wanxiang(Du Wanxiang),a number of female builders integrated in to the new era of social ideal and therefore devoted themselves to socialist construction,whose dedication spirit is worth further studying.The female images created by Ding Ling in different periods reflect different connotations of a group of women in China in the twentieth century.From a woman enlightened in May 4th to an intellectual woman who received new education,then she grew into active women who participated in the revolution and finally,she became a perfectly complete woman in the construction of the workers and peasants.According to Ding Ling's life experience and writing mentality,it is clear that rich female spiritual connotations could be shown in her novels,including the independent spirit,the breaking spirit,the revolutionary spirit and the dedication spirit.Meanwhile,this paper aims to reveal Ding Ling's hard writing process due to being a modern Chinese woman,modern intellectual and revolutionary,also to reflect on the success and shortcomings of Ding Ling's novels.
