| In this thesis, part of the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006 is chosen to be the source text of the translation practice.Through the translation of this act,it is expected to have a better understanding on the features and appropriate legal translation strategies. This translation practice mainly involves two steps. The first one is preparation before translation, such as consulting Chinese and American legislation related to sexual offenses against children, determination of the source text, trying to analyze the features of the source text under the guidance of Nord’s theory on textual analysis and computational stylistics, looking for relevant parallel texts to have preliminary understanding of the features of legislative texts and making the list of terminologies;the second step is the translation of the text under the guidance of text typology and static equivalence. That is,to summarize difficulties encountered during the process of translating, divide them into different categories and try to give solutions based on the existing theory. The author expects to have a better understanding of the features of Chinese and American legislative texts, especially the features of American legislative texts, summarize the difficulties encountered during the process of translating, give the solution, improve her legal translation skills and provide some references to the future translation practice on American legislative texts. |
