| The novel See me,written by Nicholas Charles Sparks and published in October 2015,is one of the world’s best sellers.When it saw the light,the work instantly won universal acclaim.It has not been translated into Chinese yet.This report is based on the translation of the first two chapters(approximately 12,000 words)of this book.During her translation,the author finds that the work teems with idioms,which make it difficult for the translator to comprehend and translate the text.Therefore the author decided to explore the translation of idioms under the guidance of the functional equivalence theory.Apart from giving a brief introduction to the translation process,the author,based on abundant literature review,gives a working definition of English idiom and classifies idioms into pure idioms,semi-idioms and literal idioms,especially proposes some strategies for the translation of these three types of idioms,i.e.liberal translation for pure idioms and literal idioms while a combination of liberal and literal translation for semi-idioms. |
