In view of few studies on diachronic research of complaints,this paper from the perspective of the modifiers of the same batch of English Majors in the one or two,the third grade two of output language complaints tracking comparative study,to investigate the subjects the implementation of similarities and differences in the modifiers and external modifications of complaint speech used in the different grades,and then dig the subjects two language pragmatic competence development rule,and to complain about speech act as an example to carry out the two language classroom teaching design,in order to provide the reference and Enlightenment of two language teaching.The data is collected from DTCs,carried out by the author with the help of classroom instructors in students' fall semester(every september)of the three academic years.They are asked to fill in the DCTs in 20 minutes in which 8 scenarios are designed.(scenario with society power,social distance and severity of complaint as variables).It includes:(1)meals order,(2)part-time job in gas station,(3)calling classmates,(4)lining up to buy tickets in cinemas,(5)goods return,(6)tutoring,(7)leadership interview,(8)personal privacy,eight daily life situations.The purpose of this study is to the English Majors in the one or two,the third grade two language complaining speech act used internal modification and external modification for follow-up study,analysis of subjects used in different grades of internal modification and external similarities and differences between the modifiers,explore subjects two language pragmatic development rule two language pragmatic teaching design of complaints and on this basis.The results reveal that,(1)Generally for the use of internal modifiers,there is a developing tendency of inverted “V”,and a decreasing tendency on the use of external modifiers.(2)Students' across different academic years show a similar perference for uptoners,marker “please”,downtoners and grounder,negotiation,disarmer.(3)There is a correlation between the language proficiency and degree of complaining.(4)Social factors influencing the production of complaints is ranked as imposition >social power >social distance.This study not only enriches speech acts research,but also has important guiding significance and inspiration for developing students' second language pragmatic competence and EFL teachers' second language pragmatic teaching.First of all,learners should not only focus on the acquistion of pragma-linguistic knowledge,but also socio-pragmatic rules.Secondly,learning language is not only to learn language knowledge,but also to use language appropriately.In the process of teaching,college teachers should not be limited to teaching students' language knowledge,but also design natural situations and carry out pragmatic teaching,so as to cultivate students' pragmatic awareness and develop their pragmatic competence.This paper makes a diachronic contrastive study of complaint modifiers made by the same group of English majors in different years of study(the first,second and third year)with an aim to explore similarities and differences on the use of internal and external modifiers.Thus,the paper also attempts to examine regularities of second language pragmatic competence,based on which teaching design is made for second language classroom instruction and implications for second language instruction is proposed.The originality lies in(1)The contrastive study is made diachronically,with data collected from the same group of students across three academic years.(2)A combination of qualitatived and quantitative method was used in addition to that,CiteSpace,an information visualization software is employed to digout the literature concerning the present study.The following research can also be improved in the following aspects: first,further expand the sample size,increase the number of subjects,and strive to comprehensively and objectively reflect the second language pragmatic development of English majors.Two,this study adopts the discourse completion test methods to collect data.Although this method is the most widely used method of data collection,but it is not equal to the natural context,the actual situation may not be representative of English Majors' output complaints;and in order to ensure the tracking of multiple collection the comparability of the data,the same questionnaire was used across 3 years,which is likely to lead to inaccuracy in DCT for the second or third year.
