Based on the understanding of the book,Elements of Sonata Theory: Norms,Types, and Deformations in the Late-Eighteenth-Century Sonata, written by James Hepokoski and Warren Darcy, focusing on the Exposition,Development and Recapitulatory in Sonata Form, along with the analysis in the main works of Haydn,Mozart and Beethoven, the article aims at depicting two creative concepts, the Continuous Exposition and the Rotation, presented in their theory system of sonata form, and introducing the meaning and classification of them briefly.Under the better understanding of those new concepts, people could better understand the new theory system of sonata, and even may have a comprehensive understanding on the music works in the late 18 th century, combining with music form theory in our country. The thesis is divided into three parts-the exordium, main body, and conclusion. In the exordium, domestic and overseas researches are summarized, and the basis of topic’s selection and the significance of this research is explained. The main body is consisted of three chapters. In Chapter One,by generalizing two types of exposition, the two-part exposition and the continuous exposition, and by introducing its way of classification and its different genre,a more comprehensive concept might be put forward integrating with the formal functional theory. In Chapter Two,it is mainly discussed the second important analyzing approach,Rotation,by classifying the material in a rotation structure, and comparing it with the form to analyze a piece of music.Based on the previous theoretical foundation,in Chapter Three, every two pieces of music are analyzed in one concept in order to have a better understanding of it.In the last part-conclusion,every argumentation above is concluded, proposing the combination of two analyzing systems.
