English writing rubric is a tool developed by English educators and students that lists the important criteria of students' writing performance and also articulates gradations of quality for each criterion,from excellent to poor.Exploring how to apply rubric in high school English writing teaching,which can not only enriches rubric theories,but also responds to the practical problems in current English teaching.Specifically,it helps teachers grasp the essence of standards-based teaching,and helps students better understand the connotation of good performance and use rubric to conduct self reflective learning.On the basis of combing the relevant literature on the rubric development and application,the author and co-teacher has carried out action research,practically exploring how to develop English writing rubric and how to use it in English teaching.On these grounds,this paper puts forward the procedure of rubric development.Firstly,studying curriculum standards to determine writing goals.Secondly,reading language ability literature,referring to rubrics published by authority and teachers' brainstorming to identify key criteria;Thirdly,classifying students' composition,working with students to complete description for each criterion;At last,soliciting multilateral opinion,testing inter rater reliability to finish modification.What's more,this paper tests the effect of English writing rubric.From the perspective of process,most students can plan pre-writing,find their problems and distance to standards and make high-quality modification.From the perspective of result,the quality of students' composition improved while students anxiety increased.In addition,on the basis of the reflection of the effect,a complete set of English writing teaching schemes have been formed.Before writing,teacher presents writing tasks,renders example fragments to help students understand rubric,and students carry out anonymous compositions assessment practice.During writing,students conductpre-writing and complete compositions.After writing,students carry out self assessment,peer assessment and revision,and teacher gives descriptive feedback.
