| Urban management is involved in all aspects of the people’s production and life,and is the key to the harmony and stability of the society.With the democratization and legalization of urban management,the law enforcement has become increasingly complicated,which further develops the conflict between urban management officers and the public.As a group with law enforcement power,urban management officers are subject to supervision and even extreme criticism from the public,making it a stigmatized group.Shanghai is considered to have higher standard and better law enforcement environment.Has it also been affected by the stigma? This study aimed to investigate the current status of stigma among Shanghai urban management,and explore the influence factors through a combination of quantitative and qualitative research.Study 1 used questionnaire and Single Category Implicit Association Test(SCIAT).Participants were recruited from Shanghai,including 56 general public citizens and 50 urban management officers.Each participant completed a questionnaire and a SC-IAT.In study 2,in depth semi-structured interviews were conducted on 9 urban management officers(not participating in previous research),gained the transcript of30,000 words.Data was analyzed by grounded theory,using qualitative analysis software NVIVO 11.Research findings show that:1.The effect of implicit stigma on urban management officers was significant among Shanghai general public.Most people held negative attitude toward urban management.The implicit public stigma is not related to explicit stigma.2.The perception of stigma among Shanghai urban management officers came from the reports of the media and the attitudes of the clients.It mitigates the impactof the stigma through positive cognition and coping styles.Shanghai urban management officers held positive implicit attitude toward their own group.3.Shanghai Urban Management officers tended to attribute stigma to external factors such as historical development,public criticism,and clients themselves;they were less likely to attribute to its own causes.4.Shanghai Urban Management officers had high professional identity,which was mainly reflected in the acceptance of the profession,positive feelings,meaningful work,and dedication.5.Shanghai Urban Management officers were optimistic about the future development of its own profession,believing that the social environment,the internal and the individual level of the organization are all improving. |
